"Drafting a Winning Strategy: Is Doubling Up a Worthy Consideration"

It’s very clear that the Bills Mafia is set on the Buffalo Bills targeting a WR#1 with their first pick this year. What is also clear, is that they are on board with the Bills drafting a WR with their 2nd pick as well. A recent 24/7BF poll reflects that 36% of the Mafia would, if available, like to see the Bills Draft Xavier Worthy. He impressed scouts with his play as a 3 year starter at Texas, but completely changed his draft value when he broke the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record as he ran it in 4.21 seconds.

Worthy explodes off the line of scrimmage and can reach top speed almost immediately. Many times he is able to reach the deep zones faster than the corners and safeties. Josh Allen’s arm strength and Worthy’s ability to track the ball down over his shoulder while maintaining top speed would frustrate the best NFL defenses. The Buffalo Bills utilize motion quite a bit in their Joe Brady themed offense. In the past players like McKenzie and Hardy would provide their speed and twitchiness to disrupt pre-snap reads from the opposing defense. Worthy’s speed and shiftiness could exploit opposing teams similarly and help create mismatch’s all over the field.

It has been proven that speed doesn’t always kill in the NFL (John Ross, Marquise Goodwin, J.J. Nelson). The temptation is real for some NFL teams when it comes to drafting speed. Before the combine Worthy was projected to be a day 2 potentially day 3 pick. His 4.21 40 boosted his value and some mock guru’s have him as a potential 1st rounder. If NFL teams have wisened up and can resist the temptation, Worthy could fall the Buffalo at pick #60. If he’s there, should Buffalo pounce?
