Overall another good week with minimal injuries. 2 players went down with what initially looked pretty bad but further reports give much more optimistic view of the injuries. Game injuries included Tommy Doyle and DJ Dale.
Tommy Doyle went down with an injury to his previously repaired knee. He got up limping and played the next play and then was out for the rest of the game. His leg was rolled up on and he went down hard landing directly on his knee. Apparently initial testing was negative and he is listed as day to day with what most likely is a contusion. The injury also has the potential of a MCL strain or PCL strain due to the way the injury happened. Good news is that the repaired ACL is intact. This is also good news on the depth chart as Brandon Shell retired today.
DJ Dale made a great play but ended up on the bottom of the pile with 2 players landing on his lower back And torso. He required help getting off the field. Initially there were concerns regarding rib fractures or spinal injuries. X-ray at the stadium was negative and CT later confirmed there were no fractures. He is listed as day to day with contusions of the ribs and back area. This will make his attempt to make the team more difficult due to the depth of the rest of the defensive line
Tyler Matekevich came off the PUP list. He will be a welcome addition back on special teams Where he has started in the past
Von Miller is still on PUP. As noted previously I don’t expect him to be active until the last week of preseason or later. He will gradually be ramped up as the season progresses and should be a force during the playoff run
Reggie Gilliam was back to practice today. He looks fine and will be back in his positions of FB/TE/RB/ Special Team
Damien Harris was still out with knee swelling. I suspect that they are being very cautious about getting him back to practice And will hold him out of the upcoming game even if he is practicing
Terrel Bernard hamstring is still keeping him out which pushes Dodson in as the likely week 1 MLB. Stay tuned as I see Bernard taking over the MLB as the season progresses
Jordan Phillips is gradually getting more work and is likely to see time against Pittsburgh
Actually this is a very good injury situation for this time of year. We have had no serious injuries so far and our PUP list is down to 1. So far the amazing training staff are keeping our team healthy. Great job guys And as always GOOOO BILLS!
